Dr. Pat McGuire‘s insight:

This is an important position paper to know about.  There are many risks of using neuroenhancing drugs if you don’t have a neurologic disorder that is compensated by the drugs.  We know from the military that there can be problems in the neurochemistry of enlisted men who are given them for extended periods of time so that they can perform with little or no sleep.  Think of it as using a lightbulb that is a much higher wattage than recommended for the light. It might work for awhile, but it burns out quicker and can damage the light’s wiring.  Using these drugs when not warrented is overheating your brain’s circuitry which could lead to blowing a fuse or worse.
