A group of parents are suing after they say their children with disabilities were repeatedly sent from school to hospital emergency rooms in response to tantrums and other behavior issues.
This is a serious problem, just like calling the police for children having temper tantrums. There are methods of working with these children that will avoid the further emotional trauma on the children. Would you want your child sent to the ER or to the Police Station for behaviors that you know could be controlled with some focused training of teachers and administrators? I have helped parents for over 30 years to understand the hows and whys of child behavior, especially for those with neurodevelopmental disorders. But so far, I have not had a single school ask for similar help. When will this change?
